讓孩子領航

年初開辦的通識班快到尾聲,忙着籌備下一輪暑期課程之際,為過去半年的經驗下了小總結。

通識範圍闊,如何學起,如何教起,是大部分人(包括執教前的我)想像中的最大難題。卻原來,真正挑戰並不在此。

在遼闊學海中抓緊重點施教,其實不難。只要老師對議題熟悉,判斷自然收放自如。就如老練的裁縫,布多布少,一樣縫出得體衣裳。

最難的,反而是要穿衣的人,學懂裁衣。通識不像裁縫學師,也無所謂工多藝熟。通識靠食腦,但偏偏,思考框架,絕對因人而異。

例如我每次與友相約,對方都動肝火。因為對他來說,這是怡和街、糖街、勿地臣街和軒尼斯道;於我,那是麥記、商務、時代和修頓。

接工作,我最怕開會,有什麼不能電郵談妥?友人卻相反,最怕寫來寫去。我擅用文字摸底,他最懂鑑貌辨色。處理同一件事,切入方法不一,徒然雞同鴨講。

通識如是。客觀事實只有一個,理解方法卻逾萬千。於老師合用的,於學生不一定合用。與其強加自己的一套,不如憑觀察找出每個孩子的獨特思路。

M最愛數字。講解人口老化,拿出數據一看,2036年80歲以上人口是今日的三倍,其時你正值黃金40之齡,老師卻已退休,逾30萬八旬長者,拜託你了。

W對金錢敏感。我說每年醫療開支約300億,他立刻說﹕噢,補選的1.5億,原來相對很少。

C有很強的表演慾。叫她想像資源不足的後果,隻字寫不出。着她扮演長期病患的跛腳婆婆到急症室求診,老師演惡死護士招架,焦慮委屈沮喪湧上心頭,明晒!

原來,教通識乃「溝通的藝術」。走進孩子的心,以他們的眼睛看世界,幫他們找出獨有的「思想導航系統」,孩子自能乘風破浪。

Actually, ALL kinds of education is (should be?)...... (Too ideal? :-P)

Without understanding the students' ways of thinking, you would not understand WHAT they don't understand and why, haha.

It is very obvious in language learning. The French teachers would not understand why I could mix up the names of 'camel with two camelbacks' and 'camel with one camelback'...... For me, 'HOW come there are different names?!'

Liberal Studies is really fun, if both the teachers andd learners can find ways to learn and enjoy the process......

Teaching is to challenge the sense of observation, flexibility and ability of a good teacher. Teachers must have passion to learning in order to inspire and influence their students.

People who have no or little teaching education and practical training should not be hired as full-time teachers, but the current system does not seriously care about that and therefore a waste of and threat to our public resources (government funding & our kids).

Teaching mentorship program is suggested for teaching trainees.
Some people are not suitable to be teaching staff and they should understand themselves, withdraw and switch to another suitable career during their training period.
Assessments can help them to understand more about themselves.

能够用不同的方法传授知识, 这不只适用于通识课, 其他科目亦可以.

Don't agree with kwankunghk, as yu can see that 'formal education' is not the only way to acquire those teacher skills.

If you see Wong Ming Lok, she has been a much better teacher than many 'expeienced' teachers!!!
